“Mom, can kids be part of Healthy Lamoille Valley?” Nate, my nine year old son, asked today.

It’s a great question!  We know that youth are invested in creating a better world around them.  We also know that peers listen to peers, often better than they listen to us.  So, how do we encourage youth to be active participants?

The simple answer… talk to them… ask them what they can do to help their friends stay alcohol and drug free?  Ask them how they’d like to share their ideas with their friends.  Then help give wheels to their ideas.

Nate loves to draw comics and so we talked about scenarios where he and his peers might encounter alcohol and other drugs.  Then he set to work doing what he loves to do to get the message out there!

So the simple answer is yes!  We want kids and teens to be part of Healthy Lamoille Valley’s work!  If you are a kid or teen (or have a great story about what kids and teens are doing), send us your story!  We’d love to share it! [email protected]
