Youth and Community Partners Raise Health Awareness
Student groups, Allied Health students, and community partners spread health awareness through activities and resources at the GMTCC Health Fair on May 24th. The middle, high school and tech center students who attended the event were engaged with a variety of table activities covering a range of health and wellness topics. Activities included Stop the Bleed, abdominal thrust simulations, sobriety test with impairment goggles, and resources for sexual health, mental health, substance recovery and much more!
Lamoille North Youth Coalition Students Co-facilitate Substance Awareness and Refusal Skills Workshops for 6th graders
This Spring, 11 Lamoille North Youth Coalition (LNYC) students worked with Healthy Lamoille Valley’s Youth Coordinator to learn, practice, and co-facilitate a two-part workshop on substance awareness and decision-making skills for over 120 6th grade students in the five Lamoille North elementary schools. 2024 Prevention Celebration!
Healthy Lamoille Valley was excited to celebrate this year’s work at our first annual prevention celebration held on May 15th during National Prevention week! This was an exciting time to bring together and celebrate some of the amazing prevention work being done in our region. Congratulations to the 2024 Prevention All Stars and many thanks to all who attended, volunteered, and shared their projects!
Green Up Day 2024!
Organizations, towns, families, and individuals, help raise awareness of substance misuse in our communities when you participate in Green Up Day 2024 on May 4th. Organize a group and help us collect information about our region!
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, April 27th, from 10:00am – 2:00pm. This is a great opportunity to turn in your unwanted, unused, or expired medications. Find participating Take Back Day sites in Vermont at takebackday.dea.gov. This service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
Prevention Celebration
We invite you to join us on May 15th from 12:30PM – 1:30PM at Green Mountain Tech & Career Center for National Prevention Week and celebration of prevention efforts in the Lamoille Valley! We will have snacks and an ice cream sundae party to recognize and share out the many projects that are happening including student projects!
Strategies and Tips for Retailers
Healthy Lamoille Valley’s coordinator Jessica Bickford recently got to sit down with a team from Vermont Department of Liquor and Lottery with a goal of finding strategies and tips for local retailers who want to help prevent youth access to alcohol and tobacco products while reducing their financial losses. Real Conversations: Supporting Youth and Preventing Substance Misuse
Craftsbury Schools and Healthy Lamoille Valley invite the community to an interactive evening of honest conversations about the issue, learning about resources, and finding solutions together. The evening includes a pizza dinner, door prizes, and raffles!
2024 OVX/VKAT Youth State House Rally
Students participated in an OVX/VKAT Youth State House Rally to educate and inform key decision makers and fellow Vermonters about tobacco and nicotine related issues as seen and experienced firsthand.
Askable Adult Workshop at Cambridge Community Center
Healthy Lamoille Valley and Clarina Howard Nichols Center are facilitating a two-part Askable Adult workshop on how to build trusting and affirming relationships between youth and adults on Tuesday, March 12th and 19th 2024 from 5:00-6:30 PM. Please register online by March 10th.
