Twenty eight owners, managers, and staff from Burt’s Irish Pub, Stowe Quick Mart, Spruce Camp, Edson Hill, Stowe Mountain Club/Alpine Club, Stowe Mountain Resort, Stowe Cinema, Morrisville VFW, Stowehauf, Corner Pocket and Top Notch Resort packed out Jen Fisher’s most recent Vermont Department of Liquor Control Training at the Tollhouse Conference facilities in Stowe. Jen Fisher is one of two DLC trainers that travel throughout the state offering free training seminars to those serving or selling alcohol. These trainings are important as they teach servers Vermont alcohol laws; how to spot fake ids and the importance of carding in preventing underage use; and how to recognize those who have reached their alcohol limits making our roadways safer. Servers and bartenders are really on the front lines of promoting alcohol safety in our communities. Fisher shares that those who attend a DLC training in person are much more likely to pass compliance checks avoiding fines for themselves and their employers.
Jessica Bickford, of Healthy Lamoille Valley, shares, “The Responsible Beverage Server trainings truly do make a difference when it comes to restricting youth alcohol access. When we look at the data from last year’s Vermont Young Adult Survey we see that less than 8% of 18-20 year old users purchase their alcohol from a store. This number drops to just over 6% for restaurants and bars. These numbers are encouraging, but we’d like to see them continue to decline as local retailers increase their commitment to become stricter on enforcing a zero sales to underage alcohol users. These high in-person attendance numbers at the Department of Liquor Control’s seminars are a huge step to making this happen.”
If you serve or sell alcohol, Healthy Lamoille Valley encourages you to make a renewed commitment to zero sales to underage users by sending your staff to one of the upcoming training events in our region:
November 29, 12:00-3:00, Hardwick VFW
December 1st, 4:00-7:00, Smugglers Notch in Jeffersonville
December 17th, 10:00-1:00, Tollhouse Conference Center in Stowe
